5 Simple ways to boost your immune system at home

With the way the world is spinning these days, our newly found stay-at-home habits can pave the way for some laissez-faire attitude when it comes to health, hygiene and mental wellbeing. Aside from the obvious pros and cons of being confined at home, I like to think there are a few easy things we can all do to make sure we’re staying safe and protecting our mental and physical health in these trying times. Boosting your immune system on a daily basis with these simple actions can be the difference between a productive, happy day at home and a messy, potentially hard time in self-isolation.

It’s important to see this as an opportunity to let us do the things we don’t usually get to. Like learning new skills (skillshare is a great one for this), catching up on some reading, giving a regular meditation practice a go or even taking up a new hobby like cooking!

Here’s what I’ve been doing on the regular. All these tactics have proven to be very helpful on a daily basis (not to mention, super simple).

Enjoy!

1. Drink Bone/Veggie Broth :

I know some of you are vegan/vegetarian but this stuff is like a hug-in-a-cup! Bone/beef/chicken broth has proven benefits for your health and immune system (ever wondered why they always say to eat chicken soup when you’re sick? — Exactly). Full of dense nutrients and goodness. You can also make veggie broth and add in some spices/natural superfoods, like garlic, cumin, chili etc. I love getting mine from @rubylanewholefoods (my local) but you can also find them in most health food stores. Pinterest has some great at home recipes too

2. Yoga + Meditation

Reducing stress and anxiety at this time is SO BENEFICIAL to making sure your body is rested and strong. Yoga is a great way to stretch the body between what could be some long periods laying stagnant on the couch. I’ve fallen in love with live streaming classes from a couple of my favourite studios, like Power Living Adelaide Modern Movement and Divine Flow. You can also try this breathing technique I wrote about to start a meditation practice.

Highly recommend the livestream classes, or even looking up a few on Youtube as they also have guided meditations!

3. Pamper yourselves.

Being home = at home spas, baths, facials, foam rollers... get CREATIVE with how you take care of yourself. Self care is so important in these times, whether that’s through an at home spa, some time outside, drawing or just doing whatever it is that helps you feel grounded.

I usually slap on a facemask from Origins or Ella Baché, settle into the bath tub with a glass of wine and Netflix.

4. Up your vitamin intake

I’ve upped my veggie intake but also my supplements and vitamins. Give me all the B’s, C’s, D’s, Zincs and Magnesium’s because I am stocking up and feeling good about it. You all probably know I use Blackmore's but feel free to ask a naturopath or doctor what is best for you at this time.

5. Laughter

It’s a well known fact that laughter is good for the soul, drecreasing stress levels and boosting your immune system! Be it on YouTube, Tik Tok, Netflix or calling your friend and goofing off on FaceTime ... just make sure you crack a smile at least once a day, and spread the good vibes all around.
